Coverups / Reworks

The results of coverups and re-works cannot be guaranteed.

Our artists do not have access to the necessary information from your original tattoo. Such as the original ink brand/type/shade, the depth of the ink or the products utilised in the original tattoo to be covered. Coverups are rather a camouflaging of the original tattoo as the original tattoo is still in situ. Our aim is to camouflage the original tattoo to allow focus on the new image.

Previous tattoos may have scar tissue or raised or sunken areas underneath the skin. It is not possible to change this through a coverup.

Where laser removal has been performed we always recommend obtaining advice from your laser technician ,so that you are aware of when your skin is ready to be tattooed. We are not laser professionals, so whilst we may have limited information, we are unable to advise you on this, or the long term effects laser removal may have on your skin or any future tattoos in that area. From a tattoo perspective we have found that laser does alter the skin in the area (as opposed to a none lasered area), and it can make the process of putting ink into the skin more difficult; especially where scarring from the laser process has occured.

When it comes to scar tissue coverups; a coverup will not cover any raised, or sunken areas of skin tissue, however it can help to camouflage or draw the eye away from this area, to make it less noticeable. Scar tissue can be incoprated into a tattoo design, although it should be noted that scar tattoo does not hold ink as well as none scarred skin. So more than one attempt maybe required at additional cost to the client.

We undertake an assessment of a tattoo (utilising photographs or during a visit to the studio), based upon our knowledge and experience of similar coverups/re-works from our time in the industry.

The Wolf Shed team cannot guarantee a coverup result for a client and this is due to several factors. We can not  know whether the ink we utilise and that of the original tattoo, will match, or that ours will be darker once healed. We can only use best judgment, as with all tattoos.

We cannot guarantee that our ink will settle into the skin evenly or effectively, to completely cover the old tattoo.

As with any tattoo, we cannot guarantee how the tattoo will heal, due to your body’s reaction to the new ink, and the aftercare that you undertake.

We have however completed numerous coverups and re-works and examples of them can be seen within our portfolio.

Please ensure that you familiarise yourself and fully understand the risks with coverup tattoos prior to proceeding. More information is available online.
